preliminary task colours in magazines

Task 1

The main colours of the front of my magazine NME are red, black and white. The main colours on the inside of the magazine are white and black.

In my opinion they have used white for the writing because it is in contrast with the black, which is the text box behind the writing. They’ve used red as the background for some of the writing because it makes the writing stand out and grabs the reader’s attention.

I think they’ve chosen white and black as the main colours because they are simple and they look good together as a design.

I think the colour red suggest love, danger, power and determination. NME might have used red to represent power for their magazine. White could suggest innocence, happiness, purity and safety and normally has a positive connotation and NME could have used it because it give a positive and happy vibe. Lastly black is associated with elegance, death, evil and mystery and if NME has used black for a purpose it could be because it creates mystery attracting more people to read the magazine. I think the red is used to point out some of the main features on the front cover for example: “Dog Man Star turns 20”. I also think black is used to show a feature in the magazine, ”a personal journey into the mind of a troubled genius”.

They may have used white, to make the exclusives on the front of the magazine stand out from the black background, “exclusive intro from DEBORAH CURTIS”.

Task 2

My colour palette would consist of bright, neon colours for example: pink, blue, yellow, green, orange and purple. I have chosen these colours because the bright colours will attract creative people and hopefully attract people who like the type of music the magazine is about and people who like psychedelic picture and other psychedelic things

I want the colour pink to be used for all the exclusive interview with the know DJs and I want to use the orange for the text boxes behind the exclusives. I’m going to use green as the title on the cover because I think I will stand out more than any of the other colours. I want to use purple for all the main features on the cover and I want to use yellow as the colour for the text boxes behind them. Finally I will use blue as the background for the whole magazine because it goes nicely with all the other colours.
